Burn Boot Camp Clive

Moms tend to take care of everyone else and put themselves last. Burn Boot Camp tells moms that it’s not selfish to put yourself first. You can’t pour from an empty cup! Taking 45 minutes to take care of yourself and focus on you empowers you to take on the challenges of your busy life.

I’ve been working really hard to get back to a good weight for me after a surprise later-in-life pregnancy. While the weight had been coming off, the holidays and a general lack of consistency put me in a period of regression.

A few months ago I had the opportunity to try a new exercise camp with Burn for six weeks. Surely adding a new workout routine and focusing on better eating would be just the push I needed to get back on track.

My experience with Burn Boot Camp

I brushed off my well-rested tennis shoes, pulled out my workout pants, and drove to Burn Boot Camp in Clive. At 4:25 in the morning. Yikes!

I tried my hardest to do everything they asked of me. But I couldn’t do a lot of it. I was quickly reminded that I sweat profusely with physical activity, and I hurt everywhere.

Then I realized that I had made a horrible mistake.

Had I not made a commitment to three camps a week for six weeks, I may never have returned again. But I did make a commitment, and I did return the very next morning.

When I arrived the trainer greeted me by my first name. After warming us up and explaining the workout to us, she made her way over to me as I was attempting to do a series of lunges without falling over. She gave me a few tips on my form, celebrated my improvement, and gave me an enthusiastic high five.

The high fives continued. Sometimes from the trainer, sometimes from other members. I continued making the early morning trip to camps and I signed up for a focus meeting.

Burn Boot Camp Focus Meeting

At my first focus meeting, I was impressed as the trainer helped me set realistic goals for my current fitness level. Goals like proper form on sit-ups and fitting comfortably into my favorite jeans. While she did record weight and body measurements, the conversation focused mostly on making better food choices and self-care.

Around week four I got the stomach flu and I had to miss almost an entire week of camps. When I returned, I realized I missed my morning workouts! I missed the comradery of the other members. I missed the personal attention I received daily from my trainer. And I missed working out on an elevated floor – so kind to my aging knees.

You read that right – I missed working out!

Turns out, I hadn’t made a terrible mistake, rather I had made an investment in myself at a place that valued my goals and helped me achieve them.

The workouts were intense. and I worked really hard, but the trainers celebrated every success I had along the way and pushed me to achieve more when they knew I was ready.

I’ve done several different workout programs in the past years but I’ve never been at a place that made me feel like part of the team so quickly, celebrated my successes so regularly, and provided such a variety of workouts.

And I did see great results! I lost pounds and inches, gained several new friends, and added more whole foods to my diet. Mostly though, I found joy in making time to take care of myself.

Don’t be intimidated by the phrase “boot camp”. The trainers ensure that anyone, no matter your fitness level, can do the workouts.

Several other contributors spent six weeks at Burn Boot Camp doing the Raise the Bar challenge. Like me, their experiences were extremely positive:

Becky

Burn Boot Camp for me is a wonderful community atmosphere. The trainers know you by name and the workouts push you and are always different.

Becky and I purchased punch cards so we can pop into a camp here and there to keep our fitness goals on track.

Brianne

Never in a million years did I think that I would be a person who gets up to sweat before sunrise. Participating in Raise the Bar was just the motivation I needed to get in a 5:30 a.m. workout that had me burning calories and back home before my kids finished breakfast. The instructors pushed us with a dynamic mix of exercises, but the woman-centric, positive vibe made it feel like a safe-space to challenge myself.

Mercedies

I had a wonderful experience with Burn Boot Camp. Burn provides a supportive community of women, that empower you, while guiding you to a stronger and healthier lifestyle. The trainers do a great job at challenging at your skill level, while encouraging you to try new exercises. The Raise the Bar Challenge was a great way to start off a healthy new year!
