Sometimes holidays sneak up on me and before I know it, it’s a few days before and I haven’t done much to decorate or prepare to celebrate. Today I wanted to share an easy DIY Valentine craft and decor idea you can whip together to feel festive and accomplished.
DIY Valentine Garland
For this garland, you truly only need THREE things! You will need construction paper, scissors, and a stapler. That’s it!
I bet you have them around your house, and if not, a quick trip to the dollar store can fill in whatever you’re missing.
Directions
Cut the construction paper into strips. I created equal-sized strips by folding the paper in half, then half again, then half again to get eight strips per sheet.
Then take two strips of the same color, stack them on top of each other, and staple the ends together.
Next, flip the strips over so the staple is being slightly pulled apart and bring the other ends together. This will form the heart shape! Staple the other two ends together, and the first heart is done!
Create more hearts, then staple them together side by side to create your garland.
You can stop right there and call it good, or if you want to take it a step further, you can make double hearts. For this, you will need two sets of strips of paper, but take one set and cut them slightly shorter than the other.
Take the longer set and stack them together, then place one of each of the shorter strips on the outside like a sandwich. The shorter two are the bread, and the longer two are the middle of the sandwich.
Assemble the hearts the same way you did previously stapling, flipping, and joining the bottoms together, and you will get something that looks like this.
Staple all the hearts together side by side and you have a beautiful garland to decorate your home for Valentine’s Day.
If you get on a roll with making hearts, you can also use this same method to make a love bug or a wreath!
