My Word of the Year for 2016 + Giveaway from KEEP Collective

At the start of each new year I love selecting a word that I want to live my year by, just as Kristin talked about earlier this week. Last year I selected the word LEARN and had a list of things I wanted to work on. I was unsuccessful in all but one (gained my Project Management Professional credentials!). I was pretty bummed that I had made a goal and accomplished next to nothing on my list. This is in part due to my lack of actually outlining my goals.

My Word of the Year for 2016: KindnessI originally selected my word of the year for 2016 to be GOALS. But fate had other plans. As I sat down to write this post, I opened Facebook. Two posts popped to my attention. One was about a mom who had come across a random act of kindness where someone had put a $20 bill behind a pack of diapers. Another was a video of a baker I follow. She was showing off frosting piping skills. After the quick tutorial, she had a message to her “haters.” She was sorry about the way she looked and how she sounded, and even said she was working on her parenting skills, but hoped that the haters would move on because she wasn’t going to change who she was.

AMy Word of the Year for 2016: Kindnesss I look around, I am reminded that in the digital world we live in, it is SO easy to spread hate. Leaving faceless messages seems easy when you don’t have to confront someone in person. People don’t stop and think about how that message could impact the person on the other end – or they just don’t care. Which is even more sad. If only we could do the same to spread positive messages.

This year I have selected the word KINDNESS.

This world needs more people performing random acts of kindness – not for show, but to spread hope and uplifting messages. I am pledging to put a smile on my face and greet strangers with happiness, to perform random acts of kindness each month, and to help show my daughters that with all the hate around us, a single act of kindness can change the world (or at least a small part of it).

To kick off the new year and your new word, let’s celebrate with a GIVEAWAY!

  1. My word this year is “faithful” as in to be faithful with the things and place in life that God has placed me right now and not be wishing or focusing on what is to come next.

  2. My word is “less.” If by saying “yes” I’m saying yes to more crazy, then my answer is no. I want to learn to be content with less!

    • Actually, I changed my mind. I want my word to be Believe because I need to start believing in myself more this year.
