Virtual Doctor Visits with UIeCare

The only thing worse than having a sick kid, is having to take your healthy kids with your sick kid to the doctor’s office, where they will be exposed to more germs!

What if you could talk to a doctor without leaving your house?

UIeCare, one of Iowa’s first virtual care services, makes it possible for Iowans to see a University of Iowa Health Care-credentialed provider via a webcam or smart phone from anywhere in Iowa at any time.

One Des Moines mom shares her experience with UIeCare:

I used UIeCare when the weather was awful, and I was stuck at home with two kids, one who was sick. It was later on a Saturday, and I really wanted my little guy to be seen by a doctor, but I didn’t want to wait a long time at an urgent care clinic. While googling urgent care hours I came across UIeCare, and thought I’d try it out.

My experience was great! I got a direct FaceTime call from a provider. I loved that there was no “middle man” (not that nurses aren’t wonderful but it was great just giving information once). I felt like I could really communicate what was going on. I felt completely taken care of, I was home, in my pajamas, and my kids didn’t have to leave their bedrooms.

I would use the service again in a second, and I have recommended UIeCare to friends.

The best part was seeing the doctor without leaving my house!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

A UIeCare visit costs $50. Patients do not need health insurance and can seek reimbursement from a health savings account or an insurance plan. Patients do not need to be a patient at the University of Iowa to use the service.

How does it work?

When you register at uiecare.com, patients answer screening questions to ensure virtual health care is appropriate.

If not, a referral may be made to an emergency room or primary care physician and you will not be charged. After requesting care online, patients are typically contacted by a physician within 30 minutes, but often in less than 15 minutes. Prescriptions can be written if medically appropriate.

Visit information is shared with the patient’s primary care physician, or UIeCare can connect patients with a primary care physician in their community if they don’t have one.
