A Thank You Letter to My Husband During Pregnancy

thank you

My pregnancy with my first daughter was a breeze. Aside from falling asleep early on the couch sometimes and a little tenderness in the ol’ bra area, I felt great.

Enter this pregnancy. My first trimester rendered me basically worthless. So, here’s a little thank you letter to my husband for helping me through it. Perhaps you’ve experienced the same?

Dearest husband,

As you know, during my first trimester I had to drag myself out of bed every morning and will myself to get ready for work. Thank you for helping get our daughter ready for preschool while I could barely get through a shower without falling asleep.

Thanks for picking up more bedtime shifts while I fell asleep on the couch. And, on those realllllly terrible days where I barely got through my work day without projectile vomiting on my co-workers, thank you for not cooking sausage for dinner even though I know that’s what you wanted (ugh – that smell!). Thanks also for backing off the boobies. They’re ouchy!

The first trimester was rough. Every pregnancy is different, they say. And, that’s definitely true with these daughters of ours.

There were a few days I stayed home sick from work. There were definitely enough evenings where I came home from work and proceeded to murmur, “I’m going to need you to do everything tonight”. That means you were stuck with dinner, bath, and bedtime while I laid down on the couch and fell asleep in a puddle of my own drool.

Thank you for picking up the slack when I needed you most. And, sorry I used screen time as a crutch for parenting when I had no energy. I seriously had no idea a trimester could be this rough.

The second trimester has brought me more energy, no nausea, and basically my typical self.

But, thank you still for being aware that some days I just need more help than others. And, thanks for reassuring me that all will be okay with the baby when I get crazy worries in my head.

I know we’re a team, and as the ladies yell in the delivery room – “you did this to me!”, but truly, I can’t thank you enough.

I’m certain if you can handle a sassy 3.5-year-old and a whiny, pregnant ME as well as you have, that you’re definitely up to the challenge of being a daddy of TWO little girls!

Thank you, dear husband, for walking (waddling?) with me through this pregnancy. I don’t know how I would get by without you!

Love Always,
Summer
