‘Tis the season to shop for holiday gifts for your friends, family, and loved ones. This year, before ordering all the things from Amazon, shop local in Des Moines and explore the wonderful local businesses and shops right in your neighborhood. And each of these businesses is run by women! We promise you’ll find amazing and unique gifts and you support local businesses. It’s a win-win!
Here are some of our favorite places to shop local in Des Moines:
Ephemera | 505 E Locust St Des Moines
This is my favorite place to find cards, candles, and last-minute gifts. It is such a happy place! Ephemera is owned by two women and has been in the East Village for 10 years. They have a great selection of kids games and activities as well as holiday cards, candles (the Thymes Frasier Fir candle is my all-time favorite!)
William and Noelle
This etsy shop is run by a mama of two in Ankeny. William and Noelle features personalized mugs and tumblers. The RTIC tumblers are great for coffee and cold drinks. They have a great selection and a variety of sizes, including wine tumblers, water bottles, and holiday designs.
Sugar Lane Soap Co.
Looking for a hostess gift or teacher gift? Sugar Lane Soap Co. was founded by a local mom in Waukee. She makes sugar scrubs, bath bombs, heat wraps, and more. All products are crafted with the highest quality ingredients including decadent essential oils, coconut oil, almond oil, nourishing vitamin E oil, goats milk and organic sugar. Items are available at Simply Blessed Life, Montross Gift Shop, and Pumpkin Ranch, as well as online.
The Knotty Nail
The Knotty Nail is Central Iowa’s original string art studio founded by a local mom. In addition to hosting workshops, Becky creates custom art pieces and take-home kits. Check out the pre-made Holiday designs, DIY kits, and more. Workshops also make great gifts!
