Meet Kinzy Gillespie

Hello everyone. I’ve asked my children to go play and ideally not start UFC fighting so I can write up this brief introduction (with the exception of the baby who is here on my lap, permanently attached, like a less furry koala).

I’m so excited to be a part of the Des Moines Moms Blog and contribute my laid-back view of parenting and blunt honesty to my fellow mamas. I’m not even going to pretend to have it all together, but my kids are happy, healthy, and loved beyond measure, so I’ll chalk that up as a win.

I am an Iowa native. Born and raised in southeast Iowa, I moved to the metro in 2012 and fell in love with Des Moines. I couldn’t ask for a better place to live, work, play, and raise a family. My husband, James is a Des Moines firefighter and is the patient half of our parenting duo. We work well together navigating life with three kids: Kellan (7), Harper (5), and Charlotte (5 months). We are fiercely loyal to our city and enjoy being active in the community.

You can typically find me slamming coffee, taking an obscene amount of photos, adding things to my shopping carts online knowing full well I’m never actually going to checkout, laughing at my own jokes, complaining about being tired but then staying up way too late to enjoy my wine in peace, and honing my wild animal wrangling skills while out in public with my kids. When I am not busy with the aforementioned activities I am oversharing my life on Instagram @kinzygillespie.

My parenting experience has been all over the place. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom and a work outside the home mom. I’ve had smooth pregnancies and difficult pregnancies. I’ve had natural unmedicated deliveries and received an epidural. I’ve formula fed, exclusively pumped, and breastfed. I’ve been through a divorce, been a single parent, re-married, blended families, and rocked co-parenting. I’ve been up, down, and all-around. I am so excited to offer my perspective on parenting and learn from this community along the way.
