Meet Jenni Ward, AKA The Gingered Whisk

Meet Jenni Ward Gingered Whisk Des Moines Moms BlogHello Mamas!

I am so excited to become a part of this amazing and vibrant community of local moms!

One thing I have learned during my 6 year mothering journey is how important it is to connect with and support other moms in all stages of motherhood. I am so excited to share my experience and knowledge with you, and to also learn from you and grow along side of you!

So – a little bit about me. I have been married to my best friend for over 8 years. We met in college – and we were both Biology and Chemistry dual majors, so we had all the same classes together. We became good friends, and then… well, the rest was history!

After school we moved to Kansas City for 5 years where we went to grad school, and then we moved to West Virginia for 3 years. We have lived in Des Moines for just over two years now, and hopefully we are never moving again! After growing up in Urbandale but being away for 8 years, it’s lovely to finally feel “home” again.

Over the years I have held many interesting and fun jobs – waiting tables at Stella’s (do you remember that restaurant? I loved pouring shakes!), being a nanny, being a large animal vet-tech, working in the firearms section of a crime lab – I love being really active and involved in all kinds of things. My husband is in the medical field, and so our dinner time conversations are always interesting and probably a little over the top and involve way too many details. You pretty much can’t gross out us.

I am currently a work-from home mama and enjoy busy and very full days with my girls – Ainsley (6) and Evelyn (3), and our two fur-babies Peanut (12) and Scout (10), and now our newest addition – Tonks, a 1-year-old cat.

I am a planner addict (I gotta write it all down!), a list maker, an active member of the Valley Church MOPS group, attend church when we all manage to get dressed on time, and survive on copious amounts of coffee.

I run a blog called The Gingered Whisk – which is all about family weeknight meals for busy families who want healthy and flavorful meals that they can cook while holding crying toddlers and entertaining small children, along with epic and fuss-free desserts.

I am really very nerdy and love reading, watching tv, movies, playing board games, going for hikes outside, pretending to know how to garden, writing run-on sentences, and drinking wine. I really have to force myself to be extroverted, because I would really rather prefer to curl up in a corner somewhere and read a book.

I am a firm believer in the “it takes a village” form of parenting – I definitely have no idea what I am doing, and I am so thankful for all the amazing and wonderful women who have paved the way before me and shared insights, hugs, laughter, and tears when needed!

I have been so blessed to be surrounded by amazing, strong, and fantastically supportive women through my mothering journey, and in turn I want to also provide an equally supportive and encouraging spot on my couch (or in the grocery store check-out line) for any moms who need it. I can make a pot of coffee or open a bottle of wine, whichever you want – just come on over!

Jenni lives in Urbandale with her amazing husband, two girls, two dogs who think they are children, and a feisty cat. She is the creator of The Gingered Whisk, a recipe blog dedicated to finding easy, healthy-ish, and tasty weeknight meals that kids and adults alike will love. She is super passionate about helping every member of a family learn to love great food. When not cooking, eating, or thinking about food, she is often hiking around area parks, creating intricate legos castles with her girls, watching nerdy tv with her husband, or curled up in a corner somewhere reading a good book.
