Making Valentine’s Day Special for Your Kids

0

Many mysteries are involved in the origins of Valentine’s Day, but we all know that it is a day typically known for celebrating the love of your life.

Why not celebrate the little loves in your life and let them know how much you love them, too?

Here are a few ideas to get the ball rolling.

Make a special breakfast:

Start their day with something fun and make them feel special. My favorite ideas are found in this article by Babble, but really, anything heart shaped or red/pink will work.

Make them a sign/poster:

My kids go gaga over handmade signs for them to hang in their bedroom!

Decorate their room:

Get some inexpensive decorations from Target or Michaels.

Give a gift:

It doesn’t have to be anything big, but I love when I can model to them how to show their love by gift giving.

A treat for lunch:

If Valentine’s Day falls on a school day, pack a little treat (Hershey’s kiss, chocolate heart, etc.) with a note saying I love you. If Valentine’s Day is on a weekend, same deal, but hand it to them in person.

A special dinner:

If you’re planning to go out to dinner with your sweetheart, don’t miss out on this opportunity to talk to your kids about the importance of parents showing their love for each other, as well. If you are going out, maybe leave the sitter with a special dinner for them. I found some super cute red and white heart shaped ravioli at Costco this year. Another cute idea is to grab a heart shaped pizza (or you could easily make your own!).

I enjoy lots of little touches during the day to make it fun for my kids. Not everyone does. You may think all of this seems like a bit of overkill, but my hope is that you can grab an idea or two and make this Valentine’s Day special for both you and your kids.

What do you do to make your kids’ Valentine’s Day special?
