Just Dance: Have a Toddler Dance Party

family dance partyHave you ever had one of those days when your kids won’t stop crying and nothing you do can make them stop whining or hanging onto you? Sometimes the best way to get out of a funk is to turn up the music and have a dance party.

Impromptu dance parties are a regular occurrence in our house. Sometimes it’s because we have to get the wiggles out, and sometimes it’s because if I don’t find something to entertain the kids at the end of the day, I think I might lose my mind before daddy gets home for dinner. Can I get an amen?

When all else fails, crank up the tunes and dance it off!

Our current favorite song to dance to is Justin Timberlake’s “I Gotta Feeling.” If you haven’t heard it, you should definitely look it up!

I’ll be honest, it makes me proud to say that my 3 ½ year-old knows how to find it and play it on my phone. As soon as the first cords start, my 2-year-old is shaking his little diapered booty. Seriously, is there anything cuter than toddler dance moves? They have no inhibitions. They let it all out, shaking and shimmying without a care in the world. And they especially love it when I pick them up and spin them around or stand on our “stage” (a.k.a. fireplace hearth) and play the air guitar (or strum a tennis racket!).

It’s not unheard of for us to play a song on repeat for half an hour.

Next time you feel like you’ve lost control of the kids or your sanity (or a little bit of both!), find a song and start dancing. I promise, you’ll feel better when you’re done!

Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Pharell Williams’ “Happy” are also on our playlist.

What are your favorite songs to dance to with your kids?
