j.Frances Design – Giveaway

Today’s giveaway is from j.Frances Design.

I met Jillian Withee at Ankeny Unplugged in June 2011. Super sweet soul, and her jewelry is absolutely breathtaking. Recently, I was honored to have the chance to catch up with her a bit despite her crazy busy life as an interior designer and jewelry entrepreneur.

Tell us a little about you:

“My mission is to create unique, wearable, high quality hand-crafted jewelry that makes the wearer feel like she has discovered a special treasure no one else will have. All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind, limited edition, or made to order, so they are each extremely personal to the woman who wears them.”

“I want my jewelry to be an alternative to the mass produced accessories you can find at the mall. Before I ever sit down at my work table, I spend hours searching online and in local boutiques for unique vintage beads, antique buttons, high quality glass from the Czech Republic, and semi-precious stones. I make each piece by hand with careful attention while thinking about the woman who will eventually wear it. I have shipped jewelry all over the world and the United States, from Australia, Ireland, Estonia to Minnesota, New Mexico and Maine. It’s so amazing and gratifying to me to think that something I made is bringing pleasure to such a diversity of women.”

What’s your ‘story’ – What makes j.Frances unique?

“I have a degree in Industrial Engineering and spent the first five years or so out of college trying to be practical and suppressing my need to be creative. Throughout that time, making jewelry, painting, and working on my home were my primary means of expressing myself. But, I always felt like something major was missing from my life purpose.

When I moved to Iowa in 2008, I decided to focus on nurturing my artistic side over the technical, so I enrolled in the interior design graduate program at Iowa State and launched my jewelry business by opening an Etsy shop and signing up for local craft shows like Market Day. Four years later, I can’t imagine life any other way.

I discovered that missing thing in my career was the ability to connect with people on a personal level through my work. Whether I’m working with women on transforming their home or creating the perfect piece of custom jewelry, I love that I can help them express their own unique spirits.”
