iCraft: From Pinterest to Party

1

I am not crafty. I have an entire Pinterest board full of craft ideas but have yet to complete a project in my own home. When I craft, I tend to super glue magnets to tables. That is why I got super excited a few years ago when a friend invited me to a craft day. What better way for moms to gather and get their craft on!

The original Craft Day involved several Christmas gift themed crafts. The craft days have evolved from basic scarves and magnet frames to ruffle bags, mustache mugs, and burlap wreaths. But one thing stays very much a constant – sharing kid-free time with friends!

So how can you get your craft party started?

Select your projects.photo

Projects can be selected at random, sometimes revolving around a theme or something pulled from a Pinterest board. They can range from simple to elaborate depending on your level of craft expertise (I can rock a sewing machine but cannot handle super glue).

Something to also consider when selecting your projects is knowing your space. Are you going to have enough room to have multiple sewing machines or do you have a space for spray painting objects?

Another helpful tip is to try the crafts out beforehand. Sometimes the crafts look awesome but have tricky instructions. Trying them ahead of time helps with the pressure of “getting it right” as well as knowing how long each craft should take to complete.

Plan some food!photo-2

You absolutely cannot craft without having food. Typical food selection would involve appetizer type foods. Be creative! And share your recipes. I always love trying something new and then taking home a copy of the recipe.

Put together a list of whatever you will need to get your craft on. If you are doing a craft where something is purchased in bulk, share those supplies with a friend! Or you can also select a craft where one material can be used in multiple different ways. And don’t just focus on the specific craft items. Make sure you think about the items that might be needed to complete the craft. Are you going to need to cut wire? Make sure someone brings wire cutters!

Invite your friends!

Make it a fun mom’s day in! Or, if you have lots of patience, host a kid’s craft day! What a great way to get your kids working their creative spirits!
