Hy-Vee Partners with Pinky Swear Kids Triathalon and 5K Family Fun Run

Hy-Vee is proud to partner with Pinky Swear to create the new Hy-Vee Pinky Swear Kids Triathlon and 5K Family Fun Run Friday and Saturday July 11-12, 2015, in Des Moines.

These will be fun, accessible, and engaging events for children and all fitness levels and will focus on participation rather than competition. Events will be held throughout the Midwest on varied dates and are sure to be a family fun event.

It All Started with a Promise

The Pinky Swear Foundation supports kids with cancer and their families. And it all began with a promise between a father and his nine-year-old son who asked his dad to pinky swear that he would continue to help other kids with cancer after he was gone.

A Far-Reaching Impact Beyond the Event

The primary purpose of the swim, bike, and run events is the fundraising aspect, in which kids raise money to help kids with cancer and their families. The money raised goes directly toward easing the financial and emotional impacts experienced by children with cancer and their families. In many cases, the money provides basic needs, such as mortgage and rent, transportation, utilities, gas cards, and food. According to Pinky Swear, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 45 minutes in the United States, and 1 out of 11 families given that news will file for bankruptcy.

Ages: 6-18 year-olds can participate to run, swim, and bike!

6-8 year-olds: 50 m. swim, 1.5 mile bike, 500 meter run
9-11 year-olds: 75 m. swim, 3 mile bike, 1000 meter run
12-18 year-olds: 100 m. swim, 4.5 mile bike, 1500 meter run

– Individual (one person participating alone)
– Family/Team (more than one person participating together)

Kids Tri Registration Fees:

One Race: Individuals: $45 / Additional Siblings: $40 
Two Races: Individuals: $35 for each race / Additional Siblings: $30 for each race
Three Races or More: Individuals: $25 for each race / Additional Siblings: $20 for each race

5K Family Fun Run Registration fees: 

$30 adults and$20 Kids 17 and under
