Homemade Chocolate Milk

IMG_4110I am sure your kids love chocolate like mine do.  But we all want to give our kids healthy treats.  If your children love chocolate  milk but you don’t like all the additives store bought chocolate milk comes with, then this recipe is for you!

I came up with this idea one summer and we have been hooked ever since.  I think mommy enjoys it just as much as the boys (or maybe more).  Since we have been making this I have seen other variations around but this is how we make it.  If you want to sneak in a little extra nutrition you could add some coconut oil (read about the benefits of coconut oil here) or I add freeze dried kale powder.  I just use my little cuisinart stick blender but you could use a regular blender.

Chocolate Milk

3 cups Milk

1-2 ripe bananas – if you want it a bit sweeter use 2 bananas.  I usually use 1.5 bananas

3-4 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

That’s it! Now just blend it up!

I usually just dump some in the cocoa powder to taste ( I don’t like following recipes) so use this as a guide and tweak it for your tastes.  You can reduce the cocoa powder or even add a bit of honey if you want it sweeter.  I love to make it in my wide mouth jars.  This makes enough for a nice sized drink for my two boys and just enough left for me to enjoy too.

If you have a powerful blender you could add in some ice or use frozen bananas for a frosty cold treat.  My little blender won’t handle that and I don’t plan ahead enough to freeze my bananas!
