All athletes need to obtain sports physicals in order to participate in school athletic activities during the year. This can sometimes be a hassle with your student’s already busy schedule.
On May 14, 2014, Physiotherapy Associates is partnering with Mercy and Iowa Ortho physicians to tackle a giant feat of providing the best all-inclusive and FREE sports physicals to all middle school, high school, and college athletes in the area! Free will donations will be taken for the high school of your choice. The donations will help support your school’s athletic program.

What Is Being Done:
This sports physical event is unique because the trainers and physicians will be taking an extensive medical history looking at previous injuries, cardiac, heat illness, and neurologic issues. A general musculoskeletal screen is performed to examine range of motion of the extremities and strength testing to rule out injuries. This physical focuses on if an athlete can safely participate in his or her sport.
Who Are Conducting the Physicals:
Iowa Ortho nurses perform basic diagnostics while all exams are conducted by Mercy Resident Physicians. Iowa Ortho physicians are also available if an orthopedic consult is needed. Athletic trainers and physical therapists will perform thorough musculoskeletal examinations to assure minimal likelihood of injury and reassessment of old injuries with advice for injury prevention.

- Parents/guardians must be present in order to provide consent.
- Free will donations will be collected and donated back to each school’s athletic program.
- The Iowa Wild staff and mascot will be available to talk with parents and athletes.
- Snacks and refreshments will be available during the event.
- The downtown Iowa Ortho facility offers a relaxed environment for athletes and parents.
- The staff will provide the best care for your athletes.
