clean beauty productsHave you ever asked yourself how clean your beauty products are?

I am a self-admitted beauty product junkie. I love trying new products, so starting my journey to using cleaner products was super fun.

Some of you may thinking, “what the heck is she talking about?!” Or, “This feels so overwhelming!” And I totally get both of those! Here’s how I got to where I am.

About 6 or 7 years ago, I started paying attention to the ingredients in the products I was using. This included household cleaners and personal hygiene products. When it came to beauty products I wasn’t really sure where to begin or where to start.

I was pretty invested in using Honest products (diapers, wipes, and household products) when Honest Beauty launched. Since I was already using several of their products, it was a really easy way to delve into the world of cleaner beauty.

Everyone is going to have their definition of what “clean” means to them. For me, it meant simply staying away from some key ingredients: parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. It is so interesting that the FDA does not regulate or have the authority to remove what goes into our beauty products. Several products that are banned in other countries are still used here in the U.S. When searching for clean beauty products, stick to sites that are reputable because a lot of products can claim “clean” or “natural” and still use dodgy ingredients.

I started using a few products from the Honest Beauty line and started small, one product at a time. I did some research and found other companies that were also reputable for their products and tried those too. And a few years later, I am fully transitioned to using cleaner products.

My Favorite Clean Beauty Products

Honest Beauty mascara

This mascara is so dang good guys! I have tiny baby lashes (seriously- you can barely see them without mascara) and this defines, lengthens, and adds volume. It comes with a primer on one end and the mascara on the other. It’s the best! If there is one product I recommend you try, it’s this one!

Ilia The Necessary Eyeshadow Palette in Warm Nude

This comes in 6 neutral, everyday colors. I love this palette and use it every day. I’ve tried a lot of eyeshadows and I’ve always had trouble with the colors lasting and showing up on my skin tone. I love the pigment on this shadow. It shows up, stays in place, and of course, is made with better ingredients for you.

Beautycounter Touch Up Concealer Pen

This concealer pen is so good! It is great for under the eyes and hiding dark circles. I love that it tones down redness and evens skin tone. Another great one that I’ve been using recently is from Well People. I like it but the tube is super small (although a little does go a long way) and I don’t like the applicator. Overall, though it does the job and I like the results. I have this one from Cover FX on the way. It’s supposed to be similar to Tarte Shape Tape Concealer for those beauty junkies who may know that brand.

Honest Beauty Everything Cream Foundation

This foundation is smooth, creamy, and goes on really easily. I like that it provides pretty light coverage but you can also build on a layer if you need more.

Another foundation worth mentioning is this one from Well People.

Honest Company Liquid Lipstick

I love this lipstick! It stays and isn’t too drying. I personally love the combo of Forever (on the outside) and BFF for the rest of your lips. It’s such a pretty combo! But they’re all great by themselves, too.

Honest Beauty Organic Facial Oil

Since it’s winter, I thought I’d mention this facial oil. It’s so moisturizing and leaves your skin so soft without feeling overly oily. On days I don’t wear makeup, I wear this alone.

Those are just a few of my most favorite clean beauty products. If you’re interested in making some changes I encourage you to start small, one product at a time. I love the sites Credo Beauty and Follain. They’re great to read reviews and see different products in one place. Honest Beauty is sold at Target and they almost always have a great deal on Target Circle.

I hope this encouraged and inspired some of you to make some cleaner swaps in your makeup bag. I know it can be overwhelming but our skin is our biggest organ, let’s treat it well!
