Favorite Children’s Books

Ever since I was little I have loved to read. My mom has said that when she would read me stories I would wander off, but that she would find me later reading the book perfectly to my little brother. (I WISH I still had such a great memory!)

Since having kids, I have enjoyed passing my love for reading on to them. Our library at home is stocked full of both books I enjoyed as a child and of new stories that they love to read. The girls love to grab a book and crawl in my lap to read or listen to me read to them.

Here are a few of my favorite children’s books!

Dr. Seuss – You can never go wrong with a great Dr. Seuss book. Along with the catchy word play and vivid imaginary pictures, you can work real-world lessons into each story. Some of our all time favorites are Wacky Wednesday, Green Eggs and Ham, Ten Apples Up On Top! and The Cat in the Hat.

Anything by Sandra Boynton These board books are absolutely a must in any new mom’s library. The funny short stories are catchy (and easy to memorize when the little one takes the book away from you). Our first book was Moo, Baa, La La La! It is still one of my all time favorites. Some of the books also come with a downloadable song to sing along with the story.

Anything by Mo Williams The pigeon books along with Elephant and Piggie are some of our best bedtime reads. Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late! is read at least once a week. We also enjoy reading about Gerald and Piggie’s friendship through My Friend Is Sad and There is a Bird on Your Head!

Since my oldest has started reading we have also branched out to the I Can Read! series of books. These include Pinkalicious, Disney Princess books, and other books such as When Tiny Was Tiny, and Monkey See, Monkey DoI_Can_Read_series_book

Our kids’ library is also well stocked with lots of classic books such as The Giving Tree, The Little Engine That Could, Berenstain Bears books, Amelia Bedelia, Curious George, and several nursery rhyme books.

Come back next month to hear about the books that I enjoy reading in my free time.

    • We love Red Hat, Green Hat too!! Amelia giggles whenever we say oops. Tessa did the same thing when she was younger. We are also really enjoying Are You a Cow and Not the Hippopotamus.
