30 PG Family Friendly Movies

30 (PG) Family Friendly Movies for Family Movie Night Des Moines Moms BlogWinter is great time of year to snuggle up with our kids and watch movies. It’s too dark and cold to be outside in the evenings. The holidays are over and our family is in a bit of lazy season. It’s time to relax and have some fun at home with a family movie night!

Our problem has quickly become which movie to watch with our kids who are 7 and 11. While we love the animated movies, our kids are getting older and we having been trying to find some great PG movies that are not animated. (Mostly because I am done with animated movies. They are driving me crazy!)

Here are some ideas we came up with for our family movie nights.

One of our favorite things to do on family movie nights is have snacks for dinner. I will get a bunch of finger foods ready and we can all “graze” throughout the movie. My kids love the independence of being able to serve themselves from our homemade buffet.

Some of our favorites are cheese cubes, meat sticks, fresh fruit, popcorn, oven fries, veggies and dip, pretzels and hummus, cookies, and crackers. We all get into our comfy clothes and try our best to get relaxed!

Not all “kids” movies are created equal. Some movies are scarier than others, while some movies have more adult humor/innuendos that others.

Did you know movie ratings have changed since we were kids? The PG rating of our childhood is not the same PG that is used today. To be sure your movie is something you are comfortable watching together, check out the Common Sense Media website for knowing which movies are appropriate for your family: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

This site lists movies (and apps, TV shows, etc.) and goes into depth about what themes, language, and ages are best for viewing each movie. The database is HUGE! Every movie I searched for was included.

  1. My daughter is 10-and Fuller House in my opinion is not appropriate, there are many topics and innuendos that are for a more mature audience.
I saw 3 different times this happened.
