5 Simple Things To Do to End Year Well

0

end year wellIt’s hard to believe we are rounding out 2019 and heading right into 2020 at full speed. Often times at the end of the year we look ahead at all the new year has to offer but before we do that, it’s good to look back and reflect. It’s crazy how much can happen in a year!

5 simple things to do before the end of the year

.

1. Go through your photos on your phone and pick photos that highlight your year.

I don’t know about you, but I have gotten in a bad habit of not printing photos. My kids love to look at the ones I do print. So, take a look at your phone photos and print 10-30 photos. You can download apps like the Walgreen app and it takes less than 5 minutes.

Then, put them in a small album or create a Chatbook. You might even write a little sentiment on the back. You could also laminate them and put them on a ring for your family to look at over the next year. Photos convey so much. Look back on your year in photos and remember all the moments you shared with those you care about.

2. Donate to a charity that’s special to you

It’s the end of the year and many charities count on the end of year tax-deductible donations for this yearly budget.  Is there a charity that’s near and dear to your family’s heart you could give to?

3. What do you need to let go of in 2020?

Take stock of your current reality. Do you need to declutter your schedule or your home? Is there an area of your life weighing you down you just need to address before closing the book on 2019?  What things do you need to let go of before 2020? Often, in the new year, we take on new goals and resolutions without releasing some tasks that aren’t ours to hold any longer. In the words of Elsa, “let it go!”

4. Write a list of 10-20 things you are grateful for that happened in 2019.

Taking time to reflect and be grateful is good for the soul. Did you know grateful people live longer and are better liked?  It’s true. We often are so quick to jump to the next goal or new resolution without being grateful for all we have been given. You might even include your family in on this. Sit down and reflect on the year together.  Reflection and choosing gratitude is a great life skill not only to practice ourselves but share with our kids.

5. Spend some quality time with those you love and unplug.

Stepping away from your phone and giving your loved ones the gift of your presence is a great way to round out the year. The holidays can be crazy and before you know it, it will be over. So, just stop and take a moment to savor and give thanks for those sweet, simple moments you want to just capture in your own heart without the need for posting on social media. Put your phone away, out of sight and out of mind, and just enjoy a few moments unplugged.

As we close out this year, take a moment to savor and look back at all 2019 has meant to and yours. Whether it was a year of many highs or a year full of tough times, it’s good to look back and see where you have been. Walk into 2020 with a grateful, expectant heart ready for all the next year will bring.

Happy New Year friends!

end year well
