Dr. Diana Pelzer, an Iowa native, hales from Bettendorf. She completed her undergraduate studies, her dental education, and her pediatric dental certificate all at the University of Iowa (go Hawkeyes!). Dr. Pelzer has experience treating children under sedation and general anesthesia, has worked with infants and special needs patients, been a part of the University of Iowa Cleft Lip/Palate Team, and volunteered with the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic, Iowa Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile. When she’s not delighting her littlest patients, you can find her at home in West Des Moines with her husband, Dan, and their fur-baby Moose, a poodle-mix.

Why Dr. Pelzer Loves Being a Pediatric Dentist!

I love being a dentist because it combines some of my most favorite things: working with my hands and being artistic, thinking scientifically (learning about and implementing the most up-to-date treatments and options for my patients) and most importantly, talking with people all day to make lasting connections with my patients and their families. Going to the dentist can be stressful and working with children and their parents to achieve happy and fun dental visits is my goal.
I am passionate about:
  • age one dental visits!  Cavities are “almost” 100% preventable and if parents can bring in their little ones we can work together to help prevent problems, rather than react to them. At first I thought this recommendation was crazy, but after seeing many children develop cavities as young as 12-18 months, I am a believer!
  • working with special needs patients! Each patient is different and I love learning what works to make each experience more enjoyable and comfortable than the last.
  • establishing a dental home. I am available during and after office hours for questions and emergencies.
