About The Des Moines Moms Blog (DMMB) Team

Our team of moms inspire, encourage, support, inform, and simply share this journey of motherhood we’re all navigating together. They are moms of all ages, with kids in every stage, who have a Mission and passion to connect moms in our community on and offline.

Being a part of our team gives you the chance to connect with others, share motherhood, and utilize your professional skill sets. Maybe you’re working full-time but need something for YOU. Maybe you work from home but need to get out a bit. Or maybe you’re a stay-at-home-mom and missing that professional part of life you once had. Whatever your talents, passions or previous experience, there is a place for YOU!

These are volunteer positions…but there are some really fun perks in exchange for your time and energy.

OPEN POSITIONS

Writer

Writer Responsibilities

• Provide minimum of one original posts per month on the topic of your choice (within the brand and mission of DMMB)
• Find and create pin-able images to include in posts
• Work closely with Managing Editor to meet monthly deadlines
• Opportunity to test out products and/or services for review as they become available to DMMB

Writer Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (written and verbal)
• Basic knowledge of WordPress, SEO, hyperlinks, etc. preferred
• Impeccable attention to detail
• Professional grammar
• Creativity and insightful in developing content that resonates with and encourages fellow moms and other caregivers
• Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on commitments
• Represent Des Moines Moms Blog in a positive and professional manner at all times

Neighborhood Group “Mombassador”

Our primary goal in creating Des Moines Moms Blog was to connect moms online, as well as offline through playdates and our events.  We know that being a mom is the most rewarding job we can do, but it’s also one of the toughest. We all need some support from others who know just what we are going through! We have been doing this in the past through our monthly playdates but starting in 2016 we will be doing this in these new Neighborhood Groups.

Neighborhood Groups will allow our reader to enjoy mommy meet-ups, learn more about your specific neighborhood or simply post a question to a group of moms that are in your same neighborhood of Des Moines. Whether you’re a new mom, new to the city, or just want to meet new friends, these groups will be the perfect way to connect with moms in your area. Everyone is welcome to these events and this is one strategy to make events more convenient for our readers. The goal of neighborhood groups is to have a playdate each month to provide a chance for moms and their kids to get out and meet new friends! We want these playdates to be FREE and very casual, a park would be perfect.

We would love to assign a “Mombassador” for each area to help with coordinating these gatherings, because YOU know your neighborhood best!

Mombassador Duties/Expectations

• Work closely with Bekah, our co-founder, to help plan in-formal playdates and mommy meet-ups. Identify places to meet, events happening in the area, etc. We know that you all know your neighborhoods and towns best!
• Attend DMMB planned meet-ups for that neighborhood group (roughly one to two per month). This does not include all the informal meetings that may be planned within the group, as you will not be expected to attend all of those.
• Help facilitate connections in the Facebook group by welcoming new members, facilitating any discussions, etc.
• Help uphold the Facebook group standards that are pinned to the top of each group
• Represent Des Moines Moms Blog in a positive and professional manner at all times

Event Committee Member

We are looking for a few moms to help assist our co-founders with the planning and execution of our 8+ events we hold each year.

Event Committee Responsibilities

• Along with Co-Founders, serve as point of contact for Des Moines Moms Blog events
• Potentially solicit swag and giveaway partners, as well as table sponsors, for events via phone, email and social media, continually brainstorming and pursuing new partners
• Help with set up of event, execution of event and tear down of event as directed by co-founders
• Brainstorm new ideas for Des Moines Moms Blog events
• Respond to emails in a timely manner (48 hours).
• Represent Des Moines Moms Blog in a positive and professional manner at all times

Event Committee Qualifications

• Impeccable attention to detail, organized and creative
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (written and verbal)
• Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on commitments
• Being a part of the Event Committee gets you a free ticket to all our events and a swag bag (if applicable)!!

Graphics and Website Support

Graphics/Website Support Responsibilities

Create graphics for content, events and various other needs. Help manage website content, including managing our sidebar content, setting up banner ads, adding various widgets (content blocks) and cleaning up expired giveaway code as needed.

Graphics/Website Assistant Qualifications

• Ability to use Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign (or comparable design software)
• Basic knowledge of WordPress and widgets
• Basic understanding of html and javascript code
