Des Moines Moms Blog regularly highlights local nonprofits. There are so many amazing organizations in our city dedicated to looking out for the well being of all who live here. We want to feature them and share ways you and your family can partner with them through volunteering, giving donations, and attending amazing fundraising events. If you know of a nonprofit we should feature, please email [email protected].

About Count the Kicks

Pregnant women can save their babies by getting to know their baby’s movement patterns and telling their doctor if they notice a change. Based on scientific research and medical guidance, the Count the Kicks public health campaign teaches expectant moms to track their baby’s movements once a day in the third trimester by timing how long it takes their baby to get to 10 movements.

After about a week, moms will start to see an average amount of time it takes their baby to get to 10. Every baby is different. Some babies could take five minutes to get to 10 movements, while other babies may take as long as a half hour. Moms need to learn what’s normal for their baby. If the average amount of time it takes their baby to get to 10 movements changes, tell your provider. A change in fetal movement is typically the earliest and sometimes only indication that there might be an issue with the pregnancy.

Mission Statement

Healthy Birth Day, Inc. informs and empowers moms to save their babies. Their mission is to dramatically reduce the number of stillbirths in our community through the Count the Kicks public health awareness campaign.

How to Get Involved

There are many ways you can volunteer with Count the Kicks. You can represent Count the Kicks at baby fairs and medical conferences. You can also facilitate call campaigns to tell medical providers how to order Count the Kicks educational materials. They can always use volunteers, particularly in the Des Moines area. To get involved, please email here.

Count the Kicks empowers you to tell someone about the importance of tracking baby’s movements in the third trimester. When you do this, it has the power to save a baby.

Telling expectant parents about the free Count the Kicks app is an awesome way to make a difference. Share posts on Facebook, retweet posts on Twitter or follow on Instagram.

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. Investments in the mission allow more moms to receive educational materials and allow the app to remain completely free. To donate, please visit their website
