Beautycounter: Getting Safe Beauty Products in Your Hands

This post is sponsored by local mom Rachel Webster Anderson – Consultant for Beautycounter: Working to get safe beauty products in the hands of everyone.

The Shocking Statistics

According to Beautycounter’s website, “Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.

“What’s worse is the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids every single day, day after day. These known toxins have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, hormone disruption—without telling us.”

Do you know what’s in the ingredients in your personal care products?

About Beautycounter

Rachel’s Story

I am Rachel Anderson, an Iowa native married to my best friend for twelve years and mom to three littles. I found Beautycounter in October of 2014 at a time when I desperately needed healthier options for my family. My youngest spent the first three years of his life terribly sick with severe asthma and allergies. We spent more time in the doctors office, ER, and hospital than any person should, and the doctors could do nothing more. I lived in a constant state of fear because anything and everything could set him off — the car wash fumes that sent him to the ICU for 48 hours, the cat that cause his throat to close and a lengthy ER visit…. Nothing was safe. I decided that enough was enough and started to clean up our food and cleaning products, and we pursued natural methods of medicine, but I still struggled to find healthy personal care products for our family. Sorting through ingredients and trying to understand what is truly safe, that’s hard for the average person. And that is what makes Beautycounter so great: they do the research for us, along with complete transparency of ingredients and a company mission to clean up the beauty industry to ensure all people are using safe products.

Rachel is a Senior Manager with Beautycounter.

Rachel says, “The day I found Beautycounter, I breathed a sigh of relief; and a week later, I was all in, committed to sharing these products with others because it is SO important. Our skin is the largest organ, absorbing 60% of what we put on it, yet so many people work to clean up their pantry and cleaning supplies yet forget the bathroom. I love knowing that I’m putting safe products on me and my family.”

Here’s what a few local mamas had to say about their recent experience with Beautycounter:

“I had no idea a company like this even existed. Even scarier, I had no idea there was that many chemicals in other products until I started comparing Beautycounter’s ‘never list’ to my products at home. I have a lot to learn.” -Amy S.

“I loved getting a chance to try out the products and learn more about each one and its ingredients. I loved the soft, natural scents rather than the strong aroma of most products laden with chemicals.” -Katie S.

“I’m so excited that Beautycounter does all the work of researching ingredients for me. I care about what I’m using for products, but I don’t always have time to research, and I’ll admit I often trust the labels — including products that claim to be ‘natural’ yet are still filled with junk. It is nice to be able to trust the ingredients.” -Kathryn J.
