My favorite thing about summer? SHORTS WEATHER!
My least favorite thing about summer? Shorts weather….
Ugh. Anyone else feel less than lovely about her legs as soon as the shorts go on?
Maybe it’s my body type or maybe just my own perception, but rarely can I find a pair of shorts that I feel good in. That’s why most summers find me going sporty all season—which is typically fine for my active lifestyle: athletic clothing is comfortable and practical and makes me feel both strong and smooth (thank you, pants that compress and firm). But, Under Armor tanks and NIKE capris aren’t the most appropriate apparel for every occasion. And hey, let’s face it—sometimes I just want to look like I got dressed—without sacrificing feeling good in my clothes.
Here are four things I’ve found to help me sport those shorts with confidence this summer!
1. Shorts that feel like pajamas.
If you’ve been in Target, you know what I’m talking about. Seriously—I discovered these and bought one pair one day and three more the next. Me, the lady who doesn’t love shorts. This new must-have style has an elastic waistband and a loose, flowy fit, and boasts the cutest detailing along the hem. Unlike tighter fitting styles, these don’t squeeze and crawl in all the wrong places. They’re dressy-casual and trendy while still being comfortable and flattering.
2. Lotion that works like liquid pantyhose.
I’m totally crushing on this new Body Bronzer lotion from Younique. Pictures really can’t do it justice, but take my word—it WILL make your legs feel prettier! It gives my skin a touch of color and a beautiful shimmer, smoothing out my skin tone and even covering my spider veins. Liquid gold for my limbs, this bronzing beauty makes my legs not just okay in shorts, but deserving of shorts (hehe).
3. Shoes that stretch and slim.
Nothing helps beat the feeling of frumpy looking legs like stepping in to a cute pair of wedges (or high heels, but I like comfort, remember 😉 ). Wedges, especially those of skin tone, create the illusion of longer, leaner legs; and their raised heels help those leg muscles “pop” for a little more definition.
4. Toes that add the perfect touch.
Your beachy-bronzed legs will look even better in those flattering shorts and cute shoes with the tiny touch of a pedicure. This simplest idea may yet be the hardest for mamas lacking time for themselves, but even a fresh coat of polish applied at home will change the way you see your legs—and may just make you feel better about them being seen.
