2013: A Resolution for the New Year and Beyond

0

As I write this post, my family and I are heading home from our holiday travels with a van full of opened gifts, suitcases full of dirty laundry, and hearts full of new memories. As much as we thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days away from home, 7 total Christmas celebrations, and the blessings of both giving and receiving, I’m ready to let it all come to an end. I stand at the close of this joyful holiday season, treasuring the memories of what has been and feeling excitement at what is to come.

2013. We stand on the brink of a new year, and yet I find myself looking back. Everything that may or may not happen in the coming year will in some way be influenced by what has happened in the year(s) gone by. The life we have experienced, the lessons we have learned… every piece of the past has a place in the puzzle of the future.

And so I look back. I look back with gratitude to the things which have grown me and taught me, knowing that I am all the better for them. I look back to the mommy moments, both good and bad, which are now a part of the mommy I am… and the mommy I will continue to become.

I look back with thankfulness for all I have learned, and I look forward with excitement because of everything I still don’t know. The journey of motherhood… of womanhood… of life… is a journey of learning; and I embrace it. I anticipate the teachable moments which will grow me as a mom, a wife, a woman, a child of God; and I am grateful.

I won’t be setting any New Year’s resolutions for myself. Instead, I will simply continue to live out my life’s resolution–to be ever learning, ever growing, ever changing into the woman God would have me to be.

In light of all that has been and all that will be, what resolution will you, by God’s grace, be living out this year and beyond?
