Letβs be honest: who hasnβt had a baby name list for the better part of a decade before having children?
I love looking at baby name lists, learning meanings, and daydreaming about names for my future baby girl. We already have one girl, Hannah Katherine, and are anticipating our second in just a few months.
While choosing a name can be trying at times (seriously, how many names can the hubby veto?), it is also a really fun process.
I recently took to the Des Moines Moms Blog Instagram account on my takeover day, asking you β our DMMB readers β for your favorite baby girl names.
Here are 20 beautiful baby names for a girl that you chose.
Audrey/Audra β I love old-fashioned names, and Audrey or Audra take me back. Suggested by two different readers, the names exude elegance, and I am reminded of Audrey Hepburn, who is in one of my favorite musicals of all time, My Fair Lady. Β Β
Macy β I find this name quite classy and strong. You could also spell it Maci, Macey, or Macie.
Layla β I like how this name sounds; it is girly without being too cutesy. And, it reminds me of Laila Ali, a seriously tough boxer and stunning woman.
Esme β Iβll admit, I had never heard of this name before. The name is French and means βloved,β and it is growing in popularity.
Johanna β Anyone else think of Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper? Such a great show β and name.
Josephine β Could also be shortened to Josie. This lovely, feminine version of a male name means βGod will increase.β
Deirdre β I was pleasantly surprised to see this name suggested. I like its uniqueness and how it sounds when spoken. It feels very elegant.
Natalie β This name was one of my hubbyβs top choices for our first daughter. It is a great, classic name, but I personally know too many people with it.
Heidi/Heide β Two different people suggested this name; one had given her daughter the name spelled with the βeβ at the end to honor her familyβs Dutch heritage.
Holland β Another Dutch name, and I really like it. Could be shortened to Holly or stand on its own.
Vivian β Anyone else picturing the gorgeous Julia Roberts when she had red hair in Pretty Woman? This name could also be spelled Vivianne or Vivienne, and it means βalive.β
Rosalie β Possibly my favorite of all the names our readers suggested, which is probably why my hubby rejected it when I mentioned it. Someone please choose this name for me so I can have my daughter be friends with yours. π
Isla β Another name that is growing in popularity, pronounced eye-luh, this feminine name makes me think of all things tropical, light, and summery. No wonder it makes me smile.
Quinn β This name feels a little glamorous to me, perhaps because it reminds me of Glee before the cool kids graduated and I stopped watching.
Julia β A classic name that has been popular for decades. Simple and yet so beautiful.
Eden β I love the history and meaning behind this name, which literally means βparadise,β where Adam and Eve lived.
Sutton β This name is both adorable and grown up at the same time. It makes me think that whoever has this name will be independent and a trendsetter.
Genevieve β A name that could have been a contender for us, but my hubbyβs co-workerβs daughter has the name. Heβs really into not repeating names of people within our family or social circle. Seriously, could baby naming be more difficult? Love this name. It is so pretty.
Hazel β This name is really popular right now, yet it feels very old-fashioned and unique.
Elisa β There are so many variations of this name that I like. Alyssa, Alysia, Alessia, Elysia, Elise. So feminine and lovely.
Perhaps my baby girlβs name will come from this list, or we may be struck by inspiration elsewhere. Or maybe you have another baby girl name you can suggest?
Isla was one of our top names! But we chose Ayla instead. Afterwards I learned that In Turkish they are pronounced the same so I suppose it’s a win win!
I love the name Ayla, it’s so beautiful!
I just had my 4th daughter on June 4th, and we named her Rosalie! We love it, even if our reason for picking it was because my 4 year old had been wanting to name the baby Rosie for months, and then afterwards we realized it was because she watches Peppa Pig and one of the characters is Rosie Rabbit π
Love that, Rachel! π
My daughter is named Bronwyn. To me, it is a lovely mixture of femininity and strength. Funny; so is she.
Such a unique name, love it!
That’s really great Leeanna!π€
