The West Des Moines Public Library is home to several children/adolescent and even adult programs. It is also near a pond which you can walk around, making it a fun outing! We live in West Des Moines and love it!

Why we love the West Des Moines Public Library

We love how easy it is to spend a quiet afternoon there with kids. They have a great kids’ area with puppets, Legos, computers, and of course, books!

We also love that it is near a trail that takes you around a pond, which is perfect for getting all those sillies out before or after adventuring in the library!

What kinds of activities and toys are there for kids?

There is a Lego table, a train table, and puppets available for kids to play with any time. They also offer several programs for kids of all ages throughout the week.

There is also a teen area with specially picked books just for this age range!

What do your kids love most about the West Des Moines Library?

My kids hands down love the puppets and the puppet stand. They could spend hours putting on puppet shows! They also love making new friends who are also enjoying the puppets!

Insider Tips

If you go exploring, there are small nooks everywhere! Find a quiet spot and sit down with a book. I love finding these hidden spaces and relaxing.

The library itself is pretty with big windows and a ton of natural light, which creates a very tranquil space.

They have limited hours on Sundays from 2-5 and their summer hours also change, with Sundays being closed.

Also in the summer, they also offer Friday Flicks, which is a fun event-they show a shorter film (usually 40 minutes) for kids and provide popcorn and water!
