Finding a healthcare provider who makes you feel comfortable and heard is key. And when it comes to women’s health services, there’s an extra element of trust involved.
As a Des Moines transplant, I honestly didn’t seek out an OB/GYN in town right away. I was a few years behind friends who were having babies, though, and they all raved about their experiences with Midwife Services at UnityPoint Health. They let me know I didn’t have to wait until I was peeing on sticks to make an appointment with the midwives.
I had not realized that, beyond prenatal care, Certified Nurse Midwives also provide women’s care services such as annual exams and services for women from puberty through menopause.
UnityPoint Health Midwives are your lifetime partner in health and wellness, providing care and support throughout each stage of a woman’s life. They provide primary care related to women’s health such as gynecological exams, screenings and vaccinations, fertility counseling, family planning and menopausal care. At UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, all medical consultation, collaboration and referral are in accordance with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Who wants to put their feet in stirrups for a total stranger? Not me!
I have appreciated the opportunity to get to know the whole team of UnityPoint Health Certified Nurse Midwives both as a pregnant patient and before and after delivering two children with them. Each provider has her own personality, but across the board they are personable and professional. It’s nice to have a relationship with providers who have known me as a single lady, mom-to-be, and postpartum woman.
Thank you for this post! It got me to finally schedule my annual exam … I used them for both my births (and LOVED them), and am so glad I still get to see them yearly!
Honestly, me, too! when I went last week, they even had chocolate for me on the exam table!
