Spring Fever: 3 New Things to Do This Spring

0

The weather is getting warmer, the sun is shining longer, the sky is bluer, and life just feels better with winter on its way out! I have some major Spring Fever, and I’m so glad the weather has been cooperating so I can get out of the house.

There are a few things that I think will make your life better this spring and I’m here to share them with you.

Spring Fever: 3 New Things to Do This Spring

1. 40 Bags in 40 Days

This one I read about on the interwebs somewhere, and you can, too, by googling it or checking out this Facebook page. I was a little fascinated because, I too, would like to rid myself of extra clutter, things, clothes, toys, possessions that wear me down. Plus, the goal of the whole deal is to focus on this project over the Lenten season, if you participate in that; but it can be done any time of year.

I love getting rid of stuff, so this was right up my alley. Give to friends, give to family, give to Goodwill, give to the women and children’s shelter in Des Moines. Just find a spot and do it. Because we all know by now, I’m not fitting back into my high school jeans. These are child-bearing hips now. I’m 32 years old. Let them go. Speaking of, did you hear they are making a Frozen 2?

That’s happening.

2. Plant Some Baby Plants

Okay, don’t quit on me here. I know I talk about this every.single.year. But seriously… look at these babies!

Doing this every spring has made my life so much better and it is because adding a little green to your life when everything is brown is a real joy. Plus, the kids love it, and for once, you allow a bag of dirt in your house. It’ll crack them up. When all is said and done, you can eat the product of all this fun and hard work and it is so gratifying! I promise it will be worth it.

Those are mostly tomatoes up there in the picture, but I recommend starting with a radish in a pot, which you can kind of see in the turquoise pot there in the back. They are super easy to grow and they sprout quickly. And you can slice them up in no time over a salad and think of how funny it was way back when it was just a little seed a few weeks ago. The kids love it. Do it!

3. Move

I am so guilty of being super lazy in the winter time. And it feels really good to get out in the spring and reclaim your movable self. Read here for some ideas of the best races in Des Moines. Walk it, run it, take a stroll in the neighborhood to your closest Starbucks, whatever you can manage… just move it.

There you are. Three things to make your heart sing a little this spring. Enjoy the beauty around you!
