Hooray for the School Bus Box photo (25)

We see the UPS man often at our house.  Between my ‘job’ as an Independent Director with Thirty-one Gifts and my online shopping obsession time-saving philosophy, we get to see him several times a week. However, when that little yellow school bus box arrives, my daughter knows full well the difference between that and any ordinary box! “Its my favorite school box, Mom” or “Its my Mother Goose Time” she squals as she rushes to see what’s inside.

Our Experience With The Art Studio

You may remember my post back in June describing the Bees and Butterflies Monthly Curriculum. This month we’ve been blessed to experience The Art Studio. It is designed for summer camp yet still offers the same inspiring, easy-to-use, preschool curriculum that Mother Goose Time is renowned for.

Inside the box is everything needed for the month, including a teacher lesson plan book, music CD, simple supply gathering list, and all materials needed for the month. Also included is 20 ‘day bags’ which are the crafts and supplies that correspond with each lesson. I used to spend hours prepping for school but thanks to Mother Goose Time its typically less than 15 minutes.

photo (26)The Art Studio highlights techniques such as stenciling and chalk art, mixing colors or making a self-portrait and mural while learning about other countries. Falco the Featherless Bird is the mascot of the month and has been teaching us about 5 values such as generosity, discipline, integrity, resourcefulness, and contentment. While some of those concepts are otherwise difficult to teach a three-year old, the lesson plan uses colored feathers and games to help reinforce values and nurture good decision-making.

Each day bag has a set of shapes with the 6 activities or jobs for each day including a story or song, around the world activity, money concept, art project, game and feather activity. This is easy to implement yet it is fun and engaging.

She will tell you her favorite part of each day is “Pay Day”. For completing the daily jobs, she earns $5.00 and must spend some to buy the next days supplies, save some, give some, and then decide where the rest of it goes. I love watching her ‘reason’ and choose what she will do with her remaining money. She’s been very saavy lately as she’s saving up for a hotel room on vacation!

This curriculum is easy to understand, simple to implement and most of all FUN to experience. You don’t need to have a childhood education degree, be a professional Sunday School teacher, or a Pro-Homeschooling Mom to understand this. Anyone can use this.
