Our Family’s Experience with Ingrid Williams, Realtor for Re/Max Precision

Willow Street Sold try againLast year was “The Year of the Move” for our family.

Here’s how it went down: We listed our house in March. It sold in about three weeks. April was spent packing and finding temporary housing while my CPA hubby finished out tax season. In May, I (was officially insane and) held a garage sale, then sent half our belongings to a storage unit and the rest to our new apartment. (If this is your life, friend, be sure to check out my post about Moving Tips for a Mom in the Middle). June and July were filled with two family vacations, three work conferences, and, of course, some amazing DMMB events. The house was completed in the end of September, so we moved in on a Saturday and left the country on Monday on a (much-needed) Thirty-one Gifts incentive trip….

Looking back, the process doesn’t seem that complicated. But for this Type-A mama who prefers to have control of what’s going on, those eight months were not only a whirlwind but a major time of adjustment!

We were so blessed to have worked with Ingrid Williams at Re/Max Precision throughout the entire selling and buying process. Her guidance, expertise, availability, and presence was invaluable to our family.

Ingrid came highly regarded from several friends and business contacts, as well as DMMB readers, so our decision to work with her was made easily. Her reputation was stellar, but not until we experienced the entire process and “lived” the last year with her did we realize what her commitment to us meant and how much easier the process was because of her.

She Worked on Our Timeline

Ingrid worked on our timeline during the initial discussions about selling and throughout the entire process. She was patient waiting for us to decide when it was “time.” She met and toured homes with us when it worked for our family’s schedule, which was often inconvenient, “off” hours. She helped us navigate our tricky vacation schedule when closing time was near.

She Understood Our Family’s Needs

Ingrid listened to us. She truly heard what our needs were. She was patient while we debated buying versus building. She knew we were clueless about the majority of the buying/selling/building processes and that we hadn’t gone through the process of a custom build prior. She helped us understand the process up front, and walked alongside us through each step. We didn’t even know what we needed to know, so we looked to her for answers.

Knowing our needs, lifestyle, budget, and family dynamic, she was able to help us decide on a builder and home features that were important to us. I appreciated that instead of offering her opinion up front, she always waited until we looked to her for advice. When asked, she offered objective suggestions based on resale value and what she thought our family would like/need, and helped us weigh options.

She Offered Guidance in the Building Process

Choosing a builder was an overwhelming process. First, it seems like there are 200 different builders to choose from in Central Iowa! And they all do different things, so comparison shopping is daunting. Not knowing where to begin, Ingrid helped us identify our desires. She helped us look at what each builder brought to the table. She set up meetings so we could get to know people.

Like every family, we are busy. We don’t have time to be running all over looking at granite or paint colors making decisions. Our life (and my sanity) couldn’t afford to make building a house a full-time job, so it was important to find a builder who could give us choices and flexibility without compromising our schedules. Ingrid has worked intricately with Orton Homes on many prior occasions and trusts their processes and craftsmanship, and that made our decision easier.

She Provided Connections with Area Resources

Ingrid has lived in the Des Moines area for 19 years and been in real estate for 7, so she knows her area and her market well. She’s worked with multiple builders, contractors, businesses, and families, so her knowledge of resources is beyond impressive. It was helpful that Ingrid could connect me with a local vendor or expert to save me time and energy researching on my own.

She Expressed a Personal, Genuine Commitment to Our Family

Ingrid’s personality is one in a million. She often called just to check in and see how things were going and ask if we had questions about anything. She regularly assisted with follow-up of deadlines or tasks to be completed. Knowing she was walking alongside us, looking out for our best interests, made our trust in the process and our satisfaction much greater!

We’re loving our new home and couldn’t be more thankful to have experienced such a smooth transition!
