Our DMMB Executive Team met this month to plan “2016” and had the opportunity to eat breakfast, lunch, and pastries from Main Street Cafe and Bakery in Ankeny. All five of us were super impressed and have been back several times since! We highly recommend you visit whether you’re an Ankeny native or live anywhere else in the metro and want fresh, delicious food.

About Main Street Cafe and Bakery

Main Street Cafe & Bakery opened in May and is Ankeny’s latest destination for unique breakfasts, soups, and sandwiches served all day.

This is a much-needed restaurant in Ankeny and the surrounding areas. If you’ve lived in Ankeny longer than a few months, you know the list of places to eat that aren’t fast food are rather limited, especially if you like to venture outside of chain restaurants.

Main Street is the perfect location to take your family, meet a friend for coffee, enjoy a date night, or host a private or corporate party.

Here Are My Top 12 Reasons to Visit Main Street

  1. Great food. Think of the way your food tastes when you’re eating around the table with family or friends. This is just that. The food tastes like home. It is Fresh. Unique. Flavorful. They use creative sauces and seasonings. They offer varied menu items that you don’t find other places. The food and service is consistently good. Our family has been there more than 30 different times, all different times of the day, and every time we all leave full and happy.
  2. Extensive menu: They offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything before, after, and in-between.
  3. main street baked goodsHomemade bakery items: They offer some of the most delightful baked goods in the metro area. Pastries, cookies, cupcakes, tarts, cinnamon rolls, scones, and so much more. (I’m telling you, these are the real deal. I’m a baked goods critic because I had a grandmother who made the absolute best baked goods. These are for real!)
  4. Accommodating staff and menu: The staff are helpful and always willing to get you anything you need. Need gluten-free or vegan options? They have them. Including cooking and almond flour cakes and homemade cookies.
  5. Comfortable, friendly environment: It’s kind of zen when you walk in the door. There are booths, tables/chairs, high bar-style tables for your friend dates, hubby dates, or your mom’s nights out. They have cozy little sitting areas and a double-sided fireplace that adds to this comfy vibe.
  6. Kid-friendly: Their menu, staff, and environment make it way easy to take your kids there.
  7. Hours: Open Monday through Sunday 6 a.m. through 9 p.m. The drive thru starts at 5:30 a.m.!
  8. Drive thru: Need I say more? If you’re on the way to or from work, this is super convenient. If you’re a mom with kids (especially napping kids), this is heavenly. Super quick and easy to call ahead and pick it up on the way home or to the park.
  9. Clean, spacious bathrooms. Whether you have four kids in tow or not, you know this is important.
  10. Alcoholic beverages: Tell me I’m not the only mom who likes to have a glass of wine or sangria with family dinner.
  11. Catering: Family in for the holidays and the babe’s schedule keeps you from planning a 10-course meal? Planning a holiday party and you’re not the cooking or baking type? Organizing your office’s next function? Whatever you need, they can cater your next event with an extensive catering menu!
  12. Private parties: Main Street will close their building for private parties. Contact John at 991-0118 or inquire at the restaurant.

If you need more reasons to check them out, there are a ton of great reviews on their Facebook page!
