Here are some of the best books Andrea & Kara read this year
We love all of Shauna Niequist’s books! Her latest encourages readers to trade our culture’s busy, hectic living, for a slower, more purposeful lifestyle. It would be a great book to read to kick off the new year.
The main character, Ove, is a rather crusty old-man. But through the book you learn that he does indeed have a heart and is crotchety because of life’s circumstances. The supporting cast of characters are hilarious and will make you laugh!
A quirky story about a boy and his relationship with a centenarian. It’s about friendship, loss, and Guinness records. It’s hard to describe this one, but it’s definitely worth reading!
This is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s classic, Pride and Prejudice. Short chapters and witty characters make for a quick read.
Be prepared to stay up until 2 AM to finish this one. As a mother, it hooked me from the very first chapter, but as a reader I was entranced until the very last word. Lots of surprises – it’s a “must-read” thriller!
If you love magazines, fashion, or a glimpse at life in New York City, this book’s for you! It’s a cross between Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada.
Part mystery, part love story, this family saga is set in England and leaves you guessing ’til the last page!
Have you ever wanted to know more about what life is really like at the White House? And how it would feel to serve the First Lady? The author, Iowa-born and raised, tells about his experiences as the Chief Usher and serving six presidents (and their families) at the White House. Although this is nonfiction, it is an easy read and fascinating.
I will admit that I’m a sucker for star-crossed lovers and YA literature. I loved the insights from the individual characters and how it made me examine how the smallest choice affect our entire lives.
This is a fictional account of a Nigerian immigrant’s perspective on living in America. From hairstyles to education to finding jobs, it is a fascinating look at what it means to be “American”.
