An Expecting Mom and the Infamous Baby Registry: Where Do I Begin?

5

For years the daily conversation my husband and I had revolved around what to have for dinner or what TV show to watch on any given night.

Lately, things are just a little different in our house.

Recently, our conversations have moved away from food and TV. We’ve been talking nursery colors, baby names and shower invitations.

Just a few short weeks ago, we finally announced to all of our friends that we are expecting our first baby this September!

We couldn’t be more thrilled and in the midst of all the excitement we decided to not find out the baby’s gender and be surprised when the baby is born! I’ve been told there’s no greater surprise for an adult than waiting all this time and finding out if we have a baby girl or baby boy in that one magical moment.

As if we didn’t have enough questions as first time expecting parents, not knowing the baby’s gender has brought forward even more uncertainties.

What can we buy to prepare?

What do we register for?

If we knew what we were having, would we really even buy “gender specific” items?

So here I am, just a few weeks from my baby shower and soon it will be time to stroll the aisles of Buy Buy Baby and Target and pick out those necessities.

So…what IS needed for this little bundle of joy?

I have to admit walking through Buy Buy Baby is extremely overwhelming.

How many baby bathtubs are there really? And how do you choose one?

How can there be a dozen different pack and plays?

And don’t even get me started on diapers. How do you know what brand to buy? And how many of each size?

See what I mean? Overwhelming.

Yup, this new mom’s head is spinning with excitement and questions.

I’ve talked to friends and I’ve done research online and there are so many lists and recommendations.

Ina F 3I’d love to get suggestions on what one or two of your baby (or mommy) must have are!

Or maybe there’s a local store or business with lots of great baby goodies I need to check out.

Please leave a comment below with your ‘must haves’ and ‘must do’s.

In the meantime, every time I open my dresser drawer I see this bundle of tiny newborn onesies and the soft gray and yellow colors remind me of how much we have to look forward to.

I’m married to my best friend, Zach, and we’re thrilled to be expecting our first bundle of joy this September! When I’m not working my day job, I run my own business, IF Only Pretty – a handmade jewelry company I started last year. I love designing new pieces, creating custom work for clients and taking part in jewelry shows. I also stay busy with my blog: Heartland Charm – a place all my own to share some pretty things, a few kind words and a touch of pink every once in a while.

  1. Skip taking your husband to register and take a mommy-friend instead. I had a friend do that for me and I did that for another friend and it was the smartest experience!

    • Yay for babies!

I agree with Kara K….get a mommy friend to go with you. 🙂

Although I have to say the BEST thing I bought was the Britax B-Agile Stroller and infant seat combo thingy….. That stroller is awesome. You push one button and it folds and I can life and carry it with one hand. Easy peasy. Sooooo nice when you are by yourself.

Also…I bought a lot of stuff from IKEA (changing pad ($4.50), changing pad covers, crib sheets (2 in a pack for $8 or something like that and they’re pretty nice), towels, washcloths, bibs….all for like 1/2 the cost of baby stores.

  2. Indirect relief networks area concept which most of the Help Debt attorney Miami will be there to offer you the best solution and once enrolled, offer limited representation.
The very first thing a Orange County Help Debt Attorney does when you hire him or
her. Wait for a confirmation letter from the creditor before starting payment, otherwise the risk of losing the collateral
may outweigh the benefit of our country.
