A Year of Dates

2

Instead of exchanging gifts this year at Christmas, my husband and I decided we were going to give a gift that we can enjoy all year long – a year of dates. We have committed to going out on a date one time a month for the whole year.

When we had just one child we were really good about still making time for ourselves and going out on dates, but once our second baby arrived, getting out on our own seemed to get twice as hard! We really missed our date nights and are so excited to pick it back up again.

We actually kicked off our year of dates last weekend when we dropped the kids off at their grandparents and headed out for a day of shopping, lunch, and just catching up with each other after all the holiday craziness. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had and how refreshed we felt when we picked the kids up. We are already planning our date for January!

Here are some of the things that are on our date list for 2013.

Nightfall on the River

We have always wanted to attend this fun summer concert event that is held at the Simon Estes Amphitheater during the summer months, so a date night would be the perfect opportunity for us to finally make it happen.

Progressive Dinner

I think it would be a blast to have cocktails and appetizers at one restaurant before moving on to another for dinner and then wrapping up with a yummy dessert at yet another local establishment.

Music at a Winery

Iowa has many local wineries that dot the countryside surrounding the Des Moines area. Most of them have an afternoon or evening where they feature live music you can enjoy while sipping on a glass of wine.

Both my husband and I are so excited to committ to this fun project and can’t wait to see where the year of dates takes us!

How do you make time for date nights?
