So your BFF is having a baby? Congratulations! But now, let’s get down to business. You have a major responsibility as BFF, and that is to throw one amazing baby shower.
You’ve established a theme, planned the food, and ordered the cupcakes. All that’s left is the games. Oof, the games. Don’t worry, girl, I’ve got that covered for you.
Here are eight fun and original games for any baby shower:
(Disclaimer: I have a slight obsession for The Game Show Network, so now you know where I got my inspiration!)
- Name That Lullaby: Hum the lullaby: “Twinkle Twinkle,” “Jesus Loves Me,” “You Are My Sunshine,” just to name a few. We had a face-off between the Mommy-to-be and the Grandma-to-be (Grandma guessed the most), but you could do this lots of different ways.
- Take the Hint: Each team selects one person to be the guesser while the others give the clues. Each card will be a baby related word or phrase, and the clue givers will each give one-word clues until the guesser guesses the correct word. For example, if the word is Diaper, the first person may say “Poop,” the second may say “Cloth,” and the third may say, “Disposable,” and because those are awesome clues, the guesser would say “Diaper!” Then you’d move to the next word. The team with the most correct answers in the given amount of time would be the winners!
- Baby Pictionary: All pictures drawn are baby related (e.g. rattle, bottle, nursery, etc.).
- Is It Mommy or Daddy?: Prior to the shower, get about 5-8 stories each from the mom and dad (or their parents) about when they were kids. Have them be about a sentence or two long. At the shower, read the stories to the guests and have them guess if that was something the mommy did or the daddy did.
- Timeline: Collect around six pictures of the mommy at different ages of her childhood. Do the same for daddy. Guests will put the photos in order from youngest to oldest. They can either team up or do it individually. Trust me, it’s harder than it sounds (and fun, too!)!
- Guess That Baby Book: Have two to three clues for classic baby books. Guests have to put the clues together to name the baby book. Lucky for you, I’ve done this for you! See the free printable below!
- Baby Scattergories: Have different categories like “Baby Boy Name,” “Baby Girl Name,” “Kind of Baby Food,” “Item in a Baby Bag,” “Name of a Cartoon Character,” etc. Roll a letter and play like Scattergories.
- Headbands: Cut out pictures of baby related things (high chair, swing, onesie, etc.) or write it on a note card. Guests, without knowing what they have, have to hold their card above their head. Each person has to ask yes or no questions to figure out what item is on their card. Can I eat it? Does a newborn baby use it? A great game for mingling.
Baby shower games are planned… bring on the cake!
