10 Reasons Why You Should be on Instagram

1

Instagram is the place to be people. If you aren’t on Instagram, how else will you follow Michael Phelps’ baby, Boomer (@boomerrphelps), and see all the cuteness he is up to? Or get a behind-the- scenes look at Pitch Perfect 3 (@pitchperfect3)? These are all valid reasons in my mind folks, so let’s not judge 🙂

instagram, des moines moms blogIf I haven’t convinced you to join Instagram with the temptation of seeing Boomer Phelps, here are 10 more reasons why you should be on Instagram:

1. Instagramming famous people.

Taylor Swift (@taylorswift). Joanna Gaines (@joannagaines). Beyonce (@beyonce). Chrissy Teigen (@chrissyteigen). Former Bachelor (@souleschris) and Bachelorettes (@desireesiegfried). It’s like social media spying. They have fun glossy lives that don’t involve picking up individual grains of rainbow colored rice off the kitchen floor. Instastalking is just so fun!

2. Hashtagging all over the place. #overshare #sorrynotsorry #momfail.

Hashtags on instagram allow you to search what’s going on in the lives of others who are experiencing the same thing as you. You can also create personalized hashtags for your kids, your family, your business, your supper, or your vacation!

3. Pretty pictures.

Instagram is the place to be if you are one of those people who loves taking pictures of everything – pretty sunset? Put it on instagram and hashtag it #nofilter. Kid’s messy spaghetti face? Instagram it. Work out selfie? ‘Gram it!

4. Selfie addict?

It’s okay on instagram! Although too many selfies may lead me to wonder what all you are doing in your day to day life.

5. Insta flash sales.

For real people, these are legit. Always make sure they are a real and responsible business first, but you can get some great stuff. My faves are @wrennjewelrysale from Wrenn Jewelry, @shophellocharlie who does toddler clothing sales and has great taste! I’ve gotten five pairs of druzy earrings and a bracelet from @wrennjewelrysale and each of them are gorgeous. Right Shay?

6. Takeover Tuesday.

Every Tuesday a Des Moines Moms Blog (@dsmmomsblog) contributor posts throughout the day of what’s going on in their life. It’s fun, intimate, and behind the scenes!

7. This is a good one – Chatbooks (@chatbooks).

I think scrapbooks and photobooks are awesome keepsakes and treasures. The problem? I don’t have the time or energy (or patience) for them. Chatbooks is an app where you can link your Instagram feed and they will generate a photobook and send it to you automatically. It’s $8. Bam. Signed, sealed, delivered.

8. Outfit inspiration.

Need to figure out how to incorporate your army green utility vest into your wardrobe? Instagram it. There are some great fashionistas on instagram. A local one I love is @ashleyn2504. She’s a Stella and Dot person and has great taste in clothes to boot!

9. Cute animal videos.

I really, really, really want a French Bulldog, but the closest I’m getting is @lolabarksdale. She’s adorable, and I pretend like she’s my Frenchie.

10. No (or at least less) political chatter.

I love Facebook, but sometimes I just don’t have the energy to hide all of the endless FB political rants. At least on Instagram there’s a pretty picture to go with your rant.

Those are my top 10 reasons why you should create an Instagram account today! Hop to it and follow me at @karalkn or follow DMMB @dsmmomsblog! See you there!
