10 podcasts | Des Moines Moms Blog

I am a self-proclaimed podcast junkie. As a mom-on-the-go, I spend most of my days listening to podcast whether at work or at home. They are an easy way for me to stay entertained, informed, and educated. If you don’t already listen to podcasts and are wondering why you should start, then check out this post, 4 Reasons Any Mom Will Love Podcasts, by Erica.

Here’s a not-so-short list of my very favorite podcasts for you to check out. Enjoy!

1. The Longest Shortest Time

This is one of the first parenting podcasts I ever listened to. I don’t even remember how I found it, but when I did, it was like I found my people. This podcast got me through those dark moments in those early days of parenting and has continued to deliver amazing support and advice. This podcast pushes me, makes me think, and never stops teaching me about life, humanity, and parenthood. I highly recommend this podcast for all everyone, not just parents!

Favorite Episode(s):#116 How to Not (Accidentally) Raise a Racist, #31 How to Brag to Your Mom Friends, #11 Nap Boot Camp

2. Coffee & Crumbs

As a longtime lover of their blog, I was so excited to learn about their podcast last fall. The hosts are relatable, endearing, and don’t hold back on telling the real side of motherhood. Their episodes almost always leave me feeling like I’ve just had a great conversation with good girlfriend over coffee. Check out their podcast if you’re looking for honest story’s about motherhood, parenting, and marriage.

Favorite Episode(s): #21, Interview with Erin Loechner

3. Extraordinary Moms

Extraordinary Moms is a fun-loving, uplifting podcast. Host Jessica, is energetic, sincere, and open-minded. Her interviews with moms from across the country have taught me a lot about the different circumstances and experiences of motherhood. I look forward to this podcast as it continues to deliver great content weekly.

Favorite Episode(s): #84: A Journey with Infertility with Brooke White, #82: Evolving as a Mom with Jenna Rammell

4. The Lively Show

The Lively Show has been my go-to podcast since its inception. Host Jess Lively, brings a unique and engaging perspective to the world through her experiences and travels. I look forward to Jess’s podcast weekly as it always pushes me to consider about how I can better my life through my own thoughts and actions. 5. Good Life Project

Good Life Project is a wonderful podcast that I’ve just recently started listening to. I’ll be honest, I don’t follow every episode as sometimes it’s a bit too mystic for me, but I really love the message, the host, Jonathan Fields, is delivering. His guests have fascinating stories that have introduced me to concepts and ideas I would have never known about otherwise. This podcast is a must listen if you are looking for unique and interesting perspectives on how to truly live a good life.

Favorite Episode(s): Aviva Romm: Overcoming Survival Overdrive Syndrome

6. The RobCast

This is a new-to-me podcast that I just started listening to this season. Rob brings a different viewpoint to religion than I’ve seen from other podcasts. His message and teachings are open-minded and progressive while still using traditional theology to explain a concept. I love Rob’s positivity and loving messages. I highly recommend Rob’s podcast for someone looking for some guidance and love in this tumultuous time in our world.

Favorite Episode(s): Episode 138 – The Thing in the Air Part 1, Our Body

7. The Sporkful

For someone who loves cooking and dining out, I can’t get enough of this podcast. I was hooked the moment I saw their tagline – “It’s not for foodies, it’s for eaters.” Each episode seems to teach me something new and different about one of my greatest loves – food. Their episodes are truly diverse. Many are fun and quirky, while others really push you to think outside of your comfort zone and privilege.

Favorite Episode(s): Who is This Restaurant For? Series (start with Part 1 and work your way through Part 4).

8. The Goal Digger

As someone who has always been interested in small business marketing, I love this podcast for its fresh point of view and honesty. The host, Jenna Kutcher, is a legend in the Instagram and small business world, but she doesn’t let that impact her authenticity. Jenna is raw and vulnerable in her podcasts. She has impactful interviews with a variety of interesting small business professionals.

Favorite Episode(s): Finding a Job You LOVE with Alaina Kaczmarski

9. Magic Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert

I’m always looking for ways to improve my creative side. After reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, Big Magic, I was elated to learn about her corresponding podcast, Magic Lessons. Gilbert’s interviews with aspiring and accomplished creatives taught me a lot about my own endeavors and passions. While there isn’t a current season of this podcast, it’s worth going back and listening to all the previous episodes as they are a gold mine of advice and inspiration.

10. This American Life

I know it’s a bit cliché to include This American Life as it seems to be the podcast of all podcasts, but I have never been disappointed by an episode of this show. Ira Glass delivers great content over and over and over again. It’s gripping and interesting and I always learn something new. The story telling is truly impeccable. I highly recommend this podcast to everyone as it is such a beautiful narrative into our country and our world.
